Legal regulations governing the website

The entire contents of the website of the Hungarian National Gallery are protected by copyright. No copy - whether whole or partial - of any of its digital reproductions of works of may be made without prior permission. Exceptions are the provisionally published pictures displayed in the 'Sajtószoba' (menupoint in the Hungarian version) that are taken from the press coverage of temporary exhibitions currently on show.

The design and layout of the website qualify as intellectual creation and are also protected by copyright.

Rights and Reproductions

Images of artworks in the property of the Hungarian National Gallery are under the copyright of the Museum. The Reproduction Office provides permission for both digital images and large-format colour transparencies in all manner of publications.
Professional journalists may request images to accompany media coverage of Museum exhibitions, installations, or events from the Department of Public Relations.

To receive digital photo reproductions or borrow large-format colour transparencies for publication in any medium, please contact the Reproduction Office. In order to grant a reproduction licence we require as much detail as possible about the intended use of the image. Please fill in the Image Request Form and return it by email to the Reproduction Office for a price quote. Our Reproduction Office will process your request within two workdays.

The collection

The Photograph Archive of the Hungarian National Gallery holds approximately 60,000 black-and-white negatives and some 1000 slides. These photographs depict mostly works of art in its own collection.
