Directly walking from

- Buda Castle Dísz tér,
- from the Danube bank from Clark Adam tér (also with Funicular Railway) or through the Castle Garden Basaar (Várkert Bazár)
- taking the Palace lift at the foot of the castle wall from Palota út (at Dózsa György tér) up to Castle level – fee: HUF 200/person/direction 


From the city

From Deák tér (Pest): Take Bus No. 16, alight at Clark Ádám tér or to Dísz tér,

From Ferenciek tere (Pest): Take Bus No. 5 or Bus No. 178, alight at Dózsa György tér, walk up on the stairs  until the foot of the Castle wall to the Lift,

From Széll Kálmán tér (Buda): Take the Bus No. 16, 16A or 116 to Dísz tér 

From Móricz Zsigmond tér / Gellért tér (Buda): Take Tram No. 56, alight at Dózsa György tér, walk up on the stairs  until the foot of the Castle wall and take the Lift


Entrances to the Gallery:

Building A – only to certain temporary exhibitions shown there

Building B – staff entrance

Building C – main entrance to the permanent and temporary exhibitions



Level access: at Building A (seasonal, betwen 1 April - 2 July, 2017) or at Building B (staff entrance), on the right of the arcade on a ramp.



BETWEEN 17-20 AUGUST, 2017

We kindly inform our visitors that during the Festival of Folk Arts organised traditionally in the surroundings of the Buda Royal Palace the main entrance of the Gallery (under the dome of the palace, opening from the terrace looking to the Danube) can be accessed only for Festival visitors.

Those who are going to visit only the Hungarian National Gallery, are able to enter the building only through the entrance of building ‘A’ that can be approached from the direction of Dísz square or arriving by funicular. From the iron gate at the corner of building ‘A’ there will be a lane separated to our visitors. All other access routes are to be occupied by the Festival.

During the Wine Festival between 7-10 September, 2017, admission will be also throught building 'A'.   


Level access: at Building B (staff entrance), on the right of the arcade on a ramp. From here one of our attendants shows the way to the exhibition area.

Arriving with
- public transport: by bus No. 16 leaving from Széll Kálmán square until the stop Palota út, here the elevator entrance can be accessed on a ramp.
- taxi can take you to the Hunyadi court at the backside of the palace where entrance A and B is accessible. 

Wheelchairs are available to borrow free for your visit. Please ask the assistance of our colleague.
